NJ Recall: Lancaster Products Recalled After Leg Failures Lead to Collapses and Injuries

On February 5, 2026, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a major furniture recall of about 158,486 Lancaster Table & Seating powder-coated aluminum outdoor chairs and barstools distributed by Clark Associates. The CPSC says the chairs’ legs can bend or break during normal use, creating a fall hazard for anyone sitting in the chair, resulting in 36 reports of a chair or barstool leg breaking or bending, allegedly leading to four falls and three injuries.

Which Products are Included in the Recall?

The Lancaster armchair, side chair (no arms), and barstool products are all listed in the national recall. The CPSC states that the chairs and barstools were sold nationwide through Clark Pro and Clark National Accounts, as well as online through major restaurant-supply sellers (including WebstaurantStore, The Restaurant Store, and Quicksupply).

There are approximately 180 item numbers recalled from April 2020 through October 2025, at prices ranging between $55 and $133, as well as in multiple color options (including blue, brown, dark gray, light gray/silver, red, white, aqua, black, green, sangria/burgundy, yellow, and orange).

How to Check if a Product is Recalled

To see if a product was recalled, check to see if the item’s number is on the recall list. An item number can typically be found on order confirmation and shipping emails, as well as invoices. If it is difficult to tell if a product was recalled, contact Clark Associates directly to help identify items or product numbers.

The company’s recall page explains the process where customers verify the item numbers, submit the form, and certify that the chair/barstool was marked “RECALLED” and will be disposed of. If the item was recalled, the CPSC states that the owner will be issued a refund and should:

  • Stop using the chairs and barstools immediately
  • Register the product through the recall process
  • Mark the product with the word “Recalled” in paint or thick permanent marker in a visible place
  • Dispose of the product in accordance with local and state laws

Who Can Be Held Liable in a Product Recall or Product Liability Claim

A recall can be important evidence, but often does not paint the full legal picture, especially when injuries happen in restaurants, apartment courtyards, hotels, or other commercial properties. Under NJ law, there are options for an additional product liability or other claim that could have contributed to the defective product accident under New Jersey Product Liability Act (NJPLA), N.J.S.A. 2A:58C-1 to 11. This means that depending on the facts, responsibility for the defect may extend beyond just one company or party, such as a manufacturer, distributor, or a business or property owner who kept the unsafe seating in use after learning of a hazard (in some situations).

Steps After an NJ or NY Defective Product Accident

Recently, consumers have seen a steady stream of recalls across many product categories, from skincare products to chairs. U.S. PIRG Education Fund analysis reported that injuries connected to recalled products reached an eight-year high in 2024, highlighting why product safety alerts are becoming increasingly more important for consumers to understand and follow today.

After any product injury, all records and documentation are critical pieces of evidence. Defective product owners may want to consider:

  • Seeking medical care and keeping all documentation, discharge papers, and follow-up instructions
  • Taking photos/video of the product, in this case, chair/barstool, the broken leg(s), and the area where the fall or accident occurred
  • Saving purchase records (invoice, email confirmation, shipping notice), and noting the item number
  • Writing down what happened while details are fresh (date/time, witnesses, symptoms)
  • Reporting a dangerous product incident to the appropriate safety channels (the CPSC maintains reporting options)

Most recalls require owners to dispose of the chair, barstool, or other recalled product, making it especially important to understand what legal rights are available under New Jersey law before throwing any potential evidence away or quickly taking a lowballed settlement offer. The experienced New Jersey personal injury lawyers at Davis, Saperstein & Salomon, P.C. are dedicated to their clients’ best interests and are here to help explain next steps, secure evidence, and evaluate whether a settlement truly covers the full amount of medical bills, lost wages, pain, suffering, and other damages suffered after a recalled product injury.
